Bike Camp Girona

BIKE CAMP GIRONA

7 days - February 16 to February 23, 2025

This camp is designed for cyclists preparing for the upcoming cycling or triathlon season, as well as those who simply love riding and have maintained their fitness through the winter. It’s the perfect opportunity to boost your form, build up your mileage, and immerse yourself in a week of volume training.

This week promises plenty of time on the saddle, paired with the chance to explore the stunning charm of Girona’s historic old town. You’ll stay in a comfortable, centrally located hotel, with everything you need just a short walk away. Each day’s guided cycling sessions are designed to take you along the area’s most picturesque routes, ensuring a memorable experience. Riders are grouped by skill level, so everyone can enjoy the journey together, without the worry of being left behind.

With so many professional cyclists and triathletes calling Girona home, it’s not uncommon to share the same routes we’ll be riding. As we explore these incredible roads, you’ll have the chance to train alongside some of the best in the world!

At our Week 8 Camp, we offer you the chance to ride like a local. Your guides are well-versed in the best hidden gems–from the scenic routes we’ll explore to the top local restaurants and cafes. This ensures your experience goes far beyond typical tourist spots.

What is required to join?

In the Girona area, it can be difficult to find flat routes, and comparing average speeds between other locations and Girona can be challenging due to the significant elevation gains. That’s why we use the w/kg (watts per kilogram) concept to help you determine which group is the best fit for you.

Group 1 25-29 km/h mountains corresponding to +4 watts/kg FTP.

Group 2 22-25 km/h mountains corresponding to 3-4 watts/kg FTP.

Please note that when we refer to FTP, we’re talking about your 20-minute FTP, so you don’t need to sustain 3-4 w/kg for an entire ride, just during the 20-minute FTP effort.

How do I find my FTP w/kg

To find your FTP w/kg you have to ride as hard as you can for 20 minutes on a bike that has a power meter, possibly a spinning bike if you don't have a power meter on your bike.

If you can push 260w for 20 min and weigh 75 kg, the same FTP w/kg = 3.5 w/kg

THE WEATHER IN GIRONA IN FEBRUARY

In February, Girona typically enjoys amazing sunny days. To make the most of the weather, we always start our rides a bit later to avoid the morning chill and take advantage of the peak sunshine, blue skies, and warmth, which is usually between 12-20°C. At this time of year, it’s not uncommon to end up riding in shorts and a short-sleeve jersey!

MEALS AT CAMP

At our Bike Camp in Girona, breakfast is included at the hotel, and lunch is provided during or after the bike tours.

While dinners are not included, Girona offers a wide variety of charming restaurants and cafes at different price points, so you're sure to find something you love. On four evenings, we’ll book a table at specially selected restaurants, but for the other nights, we encourage group meals to unwind and connect at the end of the day.

The city is famous for its world-renowned Michelin-starred restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca, which requires booking over a year in advance. Luckily, Girona offers many other delicious dining options, and we’re happy to share our top recommendations!

YOUR FLIGHT

We recommend that you fly into Barcelona (BCN) or the small Girona Barcelona Airport (GRO)

From there you must either take the train or a taxi to Girona. We can help with coordinating transfers so that the participants can share a taxi if possible.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to bikecampspain@gmail.com with any questions you might have about traveling from the airport to Girona.
