Winter training in Girona

BIKE CAMP GIRONA

Week 08 - Sunday the 16th . until Sunday 23 February 2025

This camp offers a good amount of volume training and this week is mainly aimed at those who are preparing for the cycling or tri season and those who just love cycling and have kept up their winter training and would like to boost their form and get some kilometers in the legs.

This week focuses on many hours in the saddle, but of course there must also be an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful and charming city, and therefore we make sure that you stay comfortably and centrally in a hotel in the old town of Girona, so everything you need is just around the corner. In addition, all daily cycling training sessions are with a guide and you will therefore be able to know for sure that you will get out on the best routes and roads in the area and we ride in groups divided by level, so that no one is left alone in the mountains!

Every day there will be cool new routes and you will probably also meet a few pros on the roads, as a lot of professional cyclists and triathletes live in Girona!

At our Camp in week 8, we give you the opportunity to experience the fantastic cycling area in Girona with hosts who know all the nooks and crannies in the area, and can show you the good restaurants and cafes and make sure everything just plays to the max!

What is required to join?

In the Girona area it is not easy to find some flat routes and it is difficult to compare an average speed from Denmark to Girona due to the many meters of altitude and therefore we use the w/kg concept so you can get an idea of whether you fit in in one of the groups.

Group 1 25-29 km/ten mountains corresponding to +4 watts/kg FTP.

Group 2 22-25 km/ten mountains corresponding to 3-4 watts/kg FTP.

Pay attention to what we are talking about 20 min FTP and thus not that you have to be able to maintain 3-4 w/kg on a whole cycle ride

How do I find my FTP w/kg

To find your FTP w/kg you have to ride as hard as you can for 20 minutes on a bike that has a watt meter, possibly a spinning bike if you don't have a watt meter on your bike.

If you can drive 260w for 20 min and weigh 75 kg, the same FTP w/kg = 3.5 w/kg

Group 1

  • Day 1 - Vingegaard loop, 65 km / 930

  • Day 2 - The 3 peaks, 155 km / 2500 hm

  • Day 3 - El Far 152 km / 1950 hm

  • Day 4 - Rest day 45 km / 420 hm

  • Day 5 - The coast 118 km / 1750 hm

  • Day 6 - Rocacorba 70 km / 1450 hm

  • Day 7 - Cap de Creus 154 km / 1500

  • 7 days in total 759 km /10500 hm ⛰️

Group 2 and 3

  • Day 1 - Vingegaard loop, 65 km / 930

  • Day 2 - Sant Hilari 105 km / 1300 hm

  • Day 3 - Olot, 118 km / 1350 hm

  • Day 4 - Rest day 25 km / 220 hm

  • Day 5 - The coast 90 km / 1100 hm

  • Day 6 - Rocacorba, 70 km / 1450 hm

  • Day 7 - Mare del Mont 120 km / 2000 hm

  • 7 days in total 593 km / 8350 hm ⛰️

THE WEATHER IN GIRONA IN FEBRUARY

The weather in Girona in February is most reminiscent of Mallorca weather and is usually super good! While it is cold, dark and wet in Denmark, here there are plenty of sunny hours and dry roads! It can be cool in the morning and therefore we always start a little later in the morning, as during the day it can be quite good with 12-20 degrees, high sun and blue skies. In February there are days when you can easily end up driving short/short!

MEALS AT CAMP

At our Bike Camp in Girona, breakfast is included at the hotel and lunch in connection with the bike tours - either during or after training.

Dinner is at your own expense and takes place in the charming city, which offers countless good restaurants! We encourage communal dining every evening, but there will be 4 planned evenings where we arrange and book a table at specially selected restaurants.

The city is known for its very famous Michelin restaurant El Celler de Can Roca which has more than a year's waiting time for a table reservation! Fortunately, the city offers many more good restaurants and we are of course helpful in recommending the best!

The price includes the following

  • 7 days on the bike with Danish guides and new fantastic routes every day. (depends on your flight choice)

  • 7 hotel nights in a shared, standard double room in a 4**** hotel right in the center of Girona.

  • 7 x breakfast buffet

  • 7 x Lunch. Some days on the road and some days in Girona to end the trip.

  • Bed linen, towels

  • Free WIFI throughout the hotel

  • Air conditioning in the rooms

  • All routes as GPX tracks.

  • 20% discount on Q36.5 bike

Prices

  • 7 days Total price per person accommodated in a shared double room 890 euros.

  • Supplement for single room 350 euros.

  • 300 euros in deposit which is paid upon registration.

  • The remaining amount must be paid no later than 3 months before arrival.

In the Girona area, expect around 20-25 euros for dinner at restaurants including drinks.

Payment

  • 300 euros in deposit which is paid upon registration.

  • The balance must be paid 3 months before arrival.

YOUR FLIGHT

You can fly directly from Copenhagen and Billund to Barcelona El Prat and the flight time is about 3 hours.

We recommend that you fly directly to Barcelona. From there you must either take a train or taxi to Girona. We are helpful in coordinating transfers so that the participants can share a taxi.

Hvis du flyver fra København med den tidlige flyvning, kan man nå en cykeltur på ankomstdagen.

Ligeledes kan man nå en lille cykeltur på afrejsedagen hvis man vælger den sene Norwegian flyvning til København.

Hvis man flyver fra Billund kan det være svært at nå at cykle sidste dag, da afgang til lufthavnen vil være ca. kl. 11.
